About

At Austin Podiatry House Calls, we are dedicated to providing exceptional podiatric care in the comfort of your own home. Because of the great need for home visits, we limit offering these services to those that are in our driving range and to those that have difficulty traveling.

Why We Are Charging a Travel Fee for Home Visits:

Mobile medical care requires significant provider travel time, which limits the number of patients that can be safely seen in a day compared with office-based practices.

Insurance reimbursement does not cover provider travel time or expenses and has historically reimbursed home visits at lower rates than comparable office visits.

In addition, as our practice adjusts for provider availability, we must carefully manage travel distance and routing in order to continue offering high-quality home-based care.

For these reasons, we charge a separate travel fee for house calls. This fee is not covered by insurance, is separate from the actual care, varies by location, and is always confirmed in advance. We are using a base fee for the first 3 miles from the provider's starting point in east Austin, and adding a fee per mile after those first 3 miles. (We are creating a fee calculator to add to this site, which should be available soon.) If there is more than one patient at a location, we can split the travel fee between them.

The medical care is billed to insurances and may include copays or deductibles.

Medical Qualifications:

To qualify to use insurance for a house call, we need to be able to document some medical reason of why it is difficult for patients to travel. Some examples: Difficulty walking, walker use, wheelchair use, bedbound status, blindness, dementia, fatigue upon exertion. If easily able to drive / travel, we do have self-pay rates as well.
